Branding Vs. Background

Hello, I'm trying to simulate what I've done here: http://www.russellhowardmusic.tumblr.com here: http://www.russellhowardmusic.com/cityheart/ What would the css be to make the page behind the branding transparent? Alternatively, I could combine the text and the background image and then lower where the page begins. What would be the process for that? Thanks!
