Add an image as 'featured image' to the post and switch the layout to magazine mode.

Thanks for your quick response ! I don't seem to find how to transform a regular image into a "featured image". The layout mode is switched to "magazine". Can you please explain how to do it ? Thanks !

Generally, use an image larger than the thumbnail size. Preferably a square shape as it will be cropped to square. I use 300x300 or higher. On the right column of your post (in edit mode) you should see an option (rather small) that says Set Featured Image under a heading that says "Featured Image". Click Set Featured Image and the popup window will appear for you to upload your image. Select the image from your local computer and upload. A settings page will appear and near the bottom of that, it will say "Use as Featured Image". Simply click that and close the popup window. You will instantly see the image appear in the right column of your post edit screen. Finalize your post edits (if any) and update or publish (as applicable). Browse to your front page and refresh. The thumbnail should appear to the left of the title.
