How to modify a box acting like a page?

Recommended Posts

A significant difference in the implementation of boxes in Platform Pro vs. WhiteHousePro is that in WHP a (feature) box is like a widget, but in PP a box is apparently actually a page. This is causing me a problem working in PP now because in each one of my boxes I'm getting the AddtoAny sharing icons, which I've set to display at the bottom of my posts and pages. I can turn off the icons showing on the pages and that solves the problem with them appearing in the boxes, but then they don't show on the pages which is what I really want. But I don't want the sharing icons displayed in every box. I suspect similar problems may come up later with other functionality. Is there a code fix for this, or a setting somewhere that makes a PP box not act like a page?

You can hide those sharing icons in the boxes using custom CSS. Can you please post a link to your site?

Catrina, here's an update: 1. I started this discussion after I created a test page to display multiple videos. I created 4 boxes, each containing a flowplayer video. It worked fine, except that the AddToAny sharing icons showed at the bottom of each individual box. So I changed my AddToAny sharing setting to NOT display on pages. But I asked the question because eventually I do want the sharing icons on pages, but certainly not in every box. 2. Subsequently I went ahead and created over 60 boxes for all my videos on 8 individual pages (Box Page template). I also added 3 boxes to my home page (Feature Page template). Yesterday afternoon I turned the AddToAny setting back to display on pages just to see what happened ... and this time the sharing icons DID NOT appear in any of the boxes. See http://stevestockdale.com/addany-screen.jpg for a screen shot of my current AddToAny settings. Here's one of the video pages and you can see that no sharing icons appear in the boxes: http://stevestockdale.com/wordpress/video-commentaries/'>http://stevestockdale.com/wordpress/video-commentaries/ Hmmm. However, on the admin pages where all the Box Sets and Feature Sets are listed, the sharing icons are displayed along with my text under the "Text" column. See http://stevestockdale.com/box-sets.jpg and http://stevestockdale.com/feature-sets.jpg . And while we're on those two Sets pages, what is the purpose of the "Media" column and why are some of the items listed under it instead of under the "Sets" column? It seems completely random to me since every feature and every box is setup the same. 3. Then last night I was playing around with different settings on the home page Feature Slider. When I set the text to appear on the right side of the slide, rather than the bottom, the sharing icons appeared! You can see this at http://stevestockdale.com/wordpress/ , the fourth slide "Archives." Note that all the feature settings are the same, except the other three slides have the text option set to display at the bottom of the slide. So it looks to me like there is some squirelly and perhaps unexpected behavior in the PP code in how it handles custom post types, which in PP looks to include features and boxes. Is any of this documented anywhere on a user-level? My concern with using custom code to solve one minor problem with a box might have unintended consequences on all the other custome post types as they're implemented in PP. Thanks. Steve

There have been issues in the past with people having sharing icons displayed in their boxes and features (because since you create boxes and features the same way you create posts, the plugin will automatically add those icons to those elements). Do you want to hide sharing icons in all boxes?

Yes, if there's a code fix I'd like to be able to have the sharing icons displayed on actual pages, but not in boxes, features, or banners. Thanks!

From viewing the site and looking at the source, it already looks like the sharing icons aren't showing up in features, boxes, or banners.

Catrina, as I explained in my long response this morning, the sharing icons show up on Archives feature slide on the home page, http://stevestockdale.com/wordpress/ . At the moment, they show up when I select the feature text to show on the right, as shown on the Archives slide ... on the other three slides there's no problem with the text on the bottom. When you say there "have been issues," does that mean that the developers recognize a bug or anomaly? And can you share under what conditions this behavior occurs?

Ah, I missed that. Here is CSS code for hiding the sharing icons in that slide:

#feature_1497 div.addtoany_share_save_container {display: none;}

Please add it to the Custom Code > Custom CSS section of PlatformPro settings. By issues, I meant that people were having the same issue with sharing icons being displayed in some of the wrong places, but the CSS fixes them each time.

Thanks, Catrina. I guess this is one of those code anomalies in the No Man's Land between the plugin and the theme. It would be nice, however, if someone on the development side could document what the problem is and why the behavior is exhibited under some conditions and not in others. One would think that the behavior of the text and the sharing icons would be the same when all that's changed is the location of the text on the feature slide.
