redapples 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2011 Hello, I just signed up for Platform Pro and am excited to get started! I am having troubles installing the theme in my online free wordpress.com account. Under Appearance, there is not a tab for Upload a Theme. Is there a different wordpress system I should be using? Thank you!
bevj 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2011 Unfortunately, you can't upload themes to Wordpress.com, it is the free free version of wordpress. You can buy upgrades that allow you to extend a theme but at the end of the day Wordpress.com really clamps down on code, so things like iframes, javascript, etc aren't supported. You also cannot install plugins! So if all you want to do is to talk about pictures of kittens then wordpress.com is the way to go. look here for more complete info on this. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/ To use the page lines theme, you need to purchase hosting that allows the Wordpress framework to be installed from Wordpress.org; the free version of WordPress that people typically talk about. Then you can upload the Pagelines theme and really get interneting. This is the way I would suggest you got. Most virtual hosting services cost around a 100$ a year domain included and offer a free one click install wordpress button that does most of the hard work for you. I use anhosting.com http://bit.ly/bev-anhosting , but there are many other, wordpress suggestions http://wordpress.org/hosting/ But the really cool thing is between a one click wordpress installation host and pagelines theme you won't need a lot of time or an extensive knowledge of web design to get a crisp, professional looking website up!!. hopefully this helps, Bevj
