Gallery Shows Images Multiple Times

Hello, I'm new here. I'm also new to WHP and Wordpress. I have managed to make a couple of websites and got everything figured out so far but this problem is beyond my (currently) limited abilities. I'm building a website using Wordpress 3.2.1 and the latest iteration of the WhiteHouse Pro theme. It's all done except for the gallery I want to include. I have installed the NextGen Gallery; the problem is that the images show up three times each, both in the thumbnails at the top of the page and when the images are opened. It insists that there are 12 images when I know I only uploaded four and only four appear in the 'manage gallery' page. So far I have deleted and re-installed the plugin - no change. I have uploaded pictures one at a time; no pictures are visible at all until the fourth one is uploaded, at which point I am informed that I have 12 pictures in the gallery. I have also looked through various folders on the server using my ftp client and I can't see any multiple instances of the gallery. Please bear in mind that I know virtually nothing about coding so if there's an answer make it as simple as possible??¦ The page is here : http://misterlion.org/mw.com/?page_id=47 : the page is currently resident on the server but is not yet public. When you use the Media uploader in WP it automatically re-sizes the original three times for a thumbnail, medium and large, based on your WP settings. (In the left panel, look under Settings | Media) to set your preferred sizes. That's why you have multiple copies of each. Personally, I've been avoiding using the Media uploader because the flash version for some reason doesn't seem to work. I just upload the sizes I want using FTP to a designated image folder. I've only played around with the NexGen Gallery and carousel thing, but I would guess your problem comes from how you've loaded or selected your gallery. If you selected an entire folder it probably would pick up all the different sizes. You might try selecting the individual images instead, although again it's been awhile since played with it.

Thanks for your answer, slingr, but that hasn't worked. I uploaded pictures by the back door (ftp) but I'm still getting multiple instances. I'm going to try again by starting from scratch, uploading the images and then working from there; there may be some confusion in the system from having uploaded/deleted so many images.

the carousel might be having issues because you don't have the minimum amount for it function properly? Also, does it seem to work with other carousel modes or does it behave the same way?

Hi cmunns; the minimum number of images seems to be four (4). Three or under don't show in the Carousel, four or more do. I have 18 images to put in there which I would think is enough, but as soon as I get more than four they double (sometimes triple). If there is a minimum number, does anyone know what it is? As to modes; it makes no difference what settings I use. All I want is a simple row of pictures at the top of the page so that visitors can click on one to open them up and look at as many as they like. Nothing fancy??¦

Have you already tried deactivating your plugins one by one to see if any of them could be cause the problem?

Hello Catrina: the NextGen carousel was the only activated plugin. The other three (Akismet, Hello Dolly and Jetpack) are installed but not activated.

Make a new gallery, upload your 4 photos and note the id number for the gallery. Then go to PlatformPro -> Carousel Settings -> Nextgen Gallery ID and type in the gallery id. Is it still showing duplicates?

I've been away doing other stuff but now it's time to get this right or not use it! This pesky gallery question is driving me nuts! Thanks to everyone so far??¦ Now the problem is that, while there is the correct number of pictures in the gallery (16), only six of them are showing in the carousel. What's more, those six are not sitting centrally but are below centre. All the pictures are the same size but there is a mix of portrait and landscape formats. Could this be causing some/all of the problems? Meanwhile, I'll see what else I can do to ty and fix it..

What do you have set in Carousel SEttings -> Displayed Carousel Items?

I don't think I have those options/fields in Whitehouse Pro??¦ What I have found is that removing the square brackets in the ' Nextgen Gallery ID' field centres the thumbnails in the carousel window but also reverts to the original problem. Seventeen images uploaded, all showing twice for a total of 34. Grrrrr??¦

I think Jimmy thought you were using PlatformPro (which is where those Carousel settings are). Are you using the latest version of WhiteHouse?
