formatting primary sidebar in pages/posts with two-column right sidebar template

Recommended Posts

hi there-- i have the two column right sidebar template installed on my site at www.zachblas.info. because of the way the template is structured, the primary sidebar is the bar in the middle (which i have videos in). i'd ONLY like this to show on my homepage. while this middle sidebar is easy to hide on posts and pages, it leaves the space where the sidebar is hidden intact and unavailable for content/text from posts and pages to move into. i'd like to know how to not only hide this middle sidebar on all pages except the homepage but also figure out how to use that empty space...more specifically, i'd like my content area to be able to expand into that empty space. if you look at any of my posts & pages, you'll see that the content/text is held over on the left-hand side. importantly, it seems easy enough to fix this problem if you're using the two-column LEFT sidebar template, but i need to figure this out using the two-column RIGHT sidebar template. i'm new to platform pro. can anyone help? thanks so much! zach

Hi Zach, The check boxes in the far right column of the post/page edit screen should help you, where you can choose to hide the sidebar(s). (If you're not using a "static" home page, then you won't see the checkboxes there, but that doesn't really matter as you're trying to hide it on the other pages.) You would probably have to widen the content area on all but the home page with this approach. Or: you can go to the bottom of each page and you should see "General Page Setup", with a dropdown under the title "Content Section - Select Layout Mode". Hope that helps!

hi kate-- i've tried most of this with no luck. when you go to "general page setup" and select "one sidebar on the right" and you have also hidden the primary sidebar with the check boxes on the right-hand side, you get NO SIDEBARS. plus the text does not move. if you uncheck hide the primary sidebar, that is the sidebar that shows up with the setting "one sidebar on the right." i need to be able to hide my primary sidebar (the middle sidebar) and keep the secondary one visible as well as let my text move over into that space.

i figured out A possible solution to this--not sure if it's the best. THIS REALLY SHOULD NOT BE THIS HARD TO FIGURE OUT, SINCE IT IS EASY TO DO IF YOUR USING THE TWO SIDEBARS ON THE LEFT TEMPLATE. it is a problem on platform pro's end because you cannot switch around the positioning of primary and secondary sidebars. i used the sidebar on either side template, made the left sidebar (primary, in this case) as small as possible...then went into the css and made the content/text width bigger. IF YOU ARE USING TWO SIDEBARS ON THE RIGHT TEMPLATE, YOU CANNOT DO THIS BY SIMPLY CHOOSING THE 1 SIDEBAR ON RIGHT OPTION PER PAGE/POST BECAUSE THIS ONLY ALLOWS THE PRIMARY SIDEBAR TO VISIBLE. if someone knows an easier way, please share!
