Sidebar next to feature or boxes

Recommended Posts

Can we place a sidebar (such as the primary sidebar) next to a feature slider or boxes? Sorry for asking this - I know it's been asked many times in the past. But I read that this was going to be available in a Platform Pro update and I can't now find info on it anywhere in the forums - search isn't bringing anything useful up at all. Many thanks :)

I've the same question but for using a sidebar next to banners. I assumed this would/should be possible... Anybody out there know?

It's possible with CSS by resizing the feature area and pushing the sidebar up. Can you post a link to your site?

Hi Catrina I have a couple of sites I'd like to do this with - both brand new and there's nothing on the homepages yet. I'm guessing it's too hard to suggest css if i have nothing there yet. I'm not sure on the layout yet - just at the design stage. I may put in a sidebar and just find a plugin that does a slider.

Hi Catrina (and ocean)! Will resizing the CSS boxes/banners in itself allow the sidebar to come up, or does the sidebar need re-coding too? The width of the sidebar I plan to use on the right is 300 wide... What exact code would I need to fiddle with? It would be better if this were done in the "child" theme, which I know little about... From what I read if I only fiddle with code in the child theme, any main theme upgrades will not be affected? I only know a little html etc. My side is also pretty much a blank slate. I want to get the shell up just as I imagine it before I dump in the content, so there is nothing to show...

I'm curious about this as well. Client wants his Facebook page next to the featured slider. Creating a sidebar widget area might work, but that's more time than I wanted to spend on this...

Hi Yoka and Nate What I ended up doing was placing the wp plugin, Featured Article Lite, (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/featured-articles-lite/) on my homepage. You can use FA lite as a widget in your sidebar or just place it on any page/post. It automatically re-sizes to width and you can tell it the height you want. It also has a few different looks, and they are really quite cool and a little similar to the PL feature - although not very customisable in relation to colours. Hopefully the PL feature will soon be able to do this too.
