Category page with static content?

Recommended Posts

Hi there, My home page is a static page and I have my blog page set up on another page through Settings -> Reading. What I'm trying to create is a category page that has a paragraph or two as a description at the top of the page. I'd like to have a static page for a blog category, a description of items in that category at the top and then the blog posts from that category underneath in date order (newest first). Is what I'm aiming for horrendously complicated (for a beginner)? Many thanks, Andrew

Hey Andrew, The easiest route would probably be a hook (or possibly a plugin). WordPress isn't setup to use static pages for category pages.

Hi Kate, Thanks for replying - that is what I'm trying to create. Rather than editing an existing category page created by Wordpress, would a better approach be for me to create a static page and then list recent posts from "category X" underneath? In my mind it's a slightly different approach, but from your technical viewpoint it might be a case of "six of one/half a dozen of another". Thanks again!
