I want to get rid of the hover text or alternate text that appears on my menu links so that the subnav items can be seen.

Thank you! I am a newbie at this and it is confusing. I already have menus on my index page. I would need to create a new menu via the CREATE MENU button in order to access that feature? Currently everything is deactivated. I have not created any menus so far, will it mess up my menus to create a new one?

The default menus don't give you this ability...so yes you would have to create a new menu...your old structure is intact, however if you delete the custom one.
