Shortcode not working - DMS2

shortcode

Best Answer Danny , 08 June 2014 - 12:31 PM

OK, I have viewed your site and as I mentioned in one of my replies above, you have line breaks in your code, for example:

[pl_carousel name="PageLinesCarousel"][pl_carouselimage first="yes" title="Slide 1" imageurl="" ]
Here is the first slide and it's caption.
[/pl_carouselimage][pl_carouselimage title="Slide 2" imageurl=""]
Here is the second slide, in all its glory.
[/pl_carouselimage]

Do not just copy and paste shortcodes, as in the demo they have linebreaks to make them easier to read. Remove all linebreaks and the shortcode will work. For example:

[pl_carousel name="PageLinesCarousel"][pl_carouselimage first="yes" title="Slide 1" imageurl="" ]Here is the first slide and it's caption.[/pl_carouselimage][pl_carouselimage title="Slide 2" imageurl=""]Here is the second slide, in all its glory.[/pl_carouselimage]

Like so.

Dear Pagelines team,

DMS2 it's a amazing framework but now I (just me?!) have a big problem: shortcodes simple not working.
I didn't find other issues like this in the forum.

Basic informations from a brand new test site (this morning):
- New istallation wordpress (last version 3.9.1)
- New installation DMS 2 (version 1.1.1 wordpress repository)
- Everything at the start point (no plugins - no changes)

- Hostgator
Test site: dms.ferienwohnunggardasee.biz

Actions:
Copied and Pasted the same shortcode from the http://demo.pagelines.me/tools/
in a page (content)= shortcode not working,
in a media box = shortcode not working.

Am I missing something?
I had no problems in using shortcodes with the older versions (Pagelines theme and the DMS1).

Thank you for some help!

Hi,

From the looks of it, you have spaces in between your shortcodes, WordPress doesn't like this, as it adds p tags between each space. To resolve your issue format your shortcodes so that there are no spaces or breaks between them.

Like this:

[shortcode code]

What you have is this:

[shortocode

code]

I think what Danny is implying. Do not add the shortcode WP visual editor. It needs to be added in text/html

I can not see why you are having problems with your mediabox

Hi guys,

thanks for the reply.

I allways right the code just in text/html. (see please new image).
I even put the shortcode between [pl_raw][/pl_raw] and add the code without spaces or breaks.

Nothing happens.

If I put the same code in DMS1 and Pagelines theme, works without problems.

Ok, I find another way.
Better to say "2" other ways.

Way 1.
Since DMS is connected with Bootstrap css it becomes possible to call the classes from bootstrap like this:
 <button class="btn btn-large btn-primary" type="button">Large button</button>

The link to bootstrap base css is http://getbootstrap....2/base-css.html

Just, with this way, some code not working.

Way 2.
Install a plugin: WordPress Twitter Bootstrap CSS

After activate it don't forget to go to settings!

TA-DA!
Everything Works! Shortcodes are back.

Conclusion:
I thing it's a Bug and I think also "I am not the only one" (like John Lennon says...) to have found it.

Anyway I hope this can be of help to someone else.

I like DMS and I am very grateful to the developers for the free version.

Thank you all.

No bug I have those shortcodes working fine on my site without no plugins. Therefore, the issue is certainly on your end.

Also, I can't say for certain, but I wouldn't recommend using that Bootstrap CSS plugin as it will likely conflict with DMS and it's styling.

Danny,

yes, it's true and you are right.
I only saw after leaving the admin area.

The Bootstrap CSS plugin can't be used.

At the moment the only solution - for my problem - remains html.

As you can see (I used your system to share - thanks for teaching :))
the same page works perfectly with the theme PageLines (installed now)

Pagelines theme here > https://cloudup.com/chEAtVATzbY

As I said before, everything is up to date and perfectly intact.

If this is not a bug I don't know what else it could be.

Well it's not a bug as I have already said I have shortcodes working on both the WordPress content editor for both a post and a page. I also have shortcodes working in a MediaBox.

Therefore, can you provide a screenshot of the post or page editor in the WordPress backend where you added the code please.

Also, contact our helpdesk with the following information:

A link to this topic so they have something to reference

A link to the site in question

Provide your admin username/password

Make sure all plugins are disabled

Make sure you have DMS debug mode active.

hello at pagelines dot com

Danny,

for me it's ok so.
We can't start from the beginning again.

The site is done.
As I said before it ist possible to write the html code in the post/page content.
Shortcodes are not essential, are only practical.

The problem remains.

I installed DMS2 in two new sites in 2 different hosting (one is hostgator).
Wordpress last version, no plugins, and no changes.
If you try to do the same I guess the result should be the same.

I like to use differents themes and frameworks but I must be productive and go on.

I will try to use the next version because I'm also curious.

Thank you for your kindness and patience.

Not sure what you mean by the problem remains, there isn't any problem shortcodes work in the Mediabox section, NextBox section and in the WordPress content editor such as Posts and Pages. The issue you're experiencing is that you have copied and pasted shortcodes from our documentation and have them in a format that WordPress doesn't like i.e. it is adding linebreaks, which corrupts the shortcode.

I have also just this moment added those same shortcodes in the correct format into my test site and have no issue, the shortcodes display as intended. I also demonstrated this in my first reply above.

Also what do you mean that it isn't possible to write HTML in the post/page content, it is, I have write HTML code in the post/page content editor all the time. The only way your HTML wouldn't work in the WordPress editor is if your HTML code isn't valid or you're using the Visual Editor and not the Text Editor.

Sorry!!

I did not mean "it isn't"
I wanted to say "it is"!

The right sentence is:
"it is possible to write the html code in the post/page content."

But not, written in any way (not copied), shortcode.
The same shortcode that works perfectly in Dms(1) and PageLines theme.

This topic is for me closed (not solved).

Thank you.

I apologise, but there really isn't anything to resolve, the issue you're experiencing is caused by how you have added the shortcodes. I have already posted an image of shortcodes working for me in a MediaBox, I have also explained as to why you're having this issue.

Your shortcodes are not in the correct format, if you add them in the correct format, they work without any issue.

Also, I am not sure what you mean by writing HTML in the post/page content editor, you can write HTML code in the post/page content editor, as long as you have the Text editor selected and not the visual one.

Updating.

I tried now different versions of the framework.

"All" versions can be found here

Versions I tried and results:

Wordpress repository DMSVersion: 1.1.1= no ok
Wordpress repository DMSVersion: 1.1.0= no ok
Wordpress repository DMSVersion: 1.0.3.7 = no ok
Wordpress repository DMSVersion: 1.0.3= no ok
Wordpress repository DMSVersion: 1.0.2= ok

Older versions will automatically ask you to update to version 1.1.8.
Others not.
Please note that the latest version in the repository is 1.1.1!

The version 1.1.8 recognizes the shortcode perfectly.

IMPORTANT:
doesn't matter whether shortcode is written in visual or in text mode!
It makes no difference! Shortcodes are recognizes.

Curiously version 1.1.8. does not contain any preloaded templates!
Empty!

I suppose the most recent version is the 1.1.8.

Possible?

The versions on wordpress.org are not the same as the versions here.

DMS v1

Latest FULL version:  1.1.8 available from www.pagelines.com

Latest FREE version: 1.0.3.7 available on wordpress.com

DMS v2
Latest FULL version: 2.1.1 available from www.pagelines.com

Latest FREE version: 1.1 available on wordpress.com

The versions are always '1' behind on wordpress.org so the updater will update you to the latest version on that branch.

Unless something has changed in wordpress, you cannot simply paste shortcodes into the visual editor, or it will convert the [ and ] into html entities and all you will see on your front page is what you think is a non working shortcode.

Always use the textmode editor for html/javascript/shortcodes, simple as that.
