DMS 2 visual editor lockdown issue in chrome

Question

Posted · Report post

Hi-

I entered the doce so that only I can access the visual editor in chrome. I added define( 'PL_EDITOR_LOCK', 'Kimberlee' ); to wp-config.php.

Now when I login as any admin that is not Kimberlee (as you see in above editor lock code) the header on my site looks like THIS .

And it is supposed to look like this:

http://www.thecosmicpath.com

Please advise,

Kim

KimAnn03 that bar at the top is the WordPress admin bar, that is not part of DMS. The part you locked out is the actual DMS editor that pops up from the bottom.

Simon_P Please review the 2 images I provided. I am not referencing the WP admin bar I am referencing the site's header. The whole top of my site where the logo and social media icons are is all jumbled.

Simon_P it's frustrating when someone is so quick to answer me when they don't really read my question and then when they realize I am ATUALLY having an issue there's no response :/ . Have you looked at the 2 provided links?

That's the dev site. The link I provided was for live site http://www.thecosmicpath.com. Logged in or out this is how it is always supposed to look.

The image I provided is a screenshot uploaded to my devsite to show you what logged in as an admin other than me renders (this is the problem I am showcasing here in this image): THIS

Might i suggest, first fixing all the HTML errors in your code

http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thecosmicpath.com%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0&user-agent=W3C_Validator%2F1.3+http%3A%2F%2Fvalidator.w3.org%2Fservices

nested a tags, unclosed divs, unclosed font declarations. You even have </body> inside a media section?

That's not even accurate. I can't find the issues it suggests....for example:

Here's the code I have in the mediabox for my social icons:

    <li><a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/TheCosmicPathcom-with-Stephanie-Azaria/280427811989832" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.thecosmicpath.com/wp-content/uploads/Facebook.png" alt="icon-facebook"></i></a></li>

This is telling me there's a missing bracket that's there:

…smicpath.com/wp-content/uploads/Facebook.png" alt="icon-facebook"></i></a></li>

Am I missing something?! It looks there to me!

You know I copied this DIRECTLY from a pagelines doc on how to insert social media icons:

http://docs.pagelines.com/tutorials/creating-a-branding-area

  1. <div class="social-bar pull-right">
  2. <ul class="zmt zmb">
  3. <li><a href="#" target="_blank"><i class="icon icon-dribbble"></i></a></li>
  4. <li><a href="#" target="_blank"><i class="icon icon-facebook"></i></a></li>
  5. <li><a href="#" target="_blank"><i class="icon icon-google-plus"></i></a></li>
  6. <li><a href="#" target="_blank"><i class="icon icon-instagram"></i></a></li>
  7. <li><a href="#" target="_blank"><i class="icon icon-linkedin"></i></a></li>
  8. <li><a href="#" target="_blank"><i class="icon icon-pinterest"></i></a></li>
  9. <li><a href="#" target="_blank"><i class="icon icon-twitter"></i></a></li>
  10. <li><a href="#" target="_blank"><i class="icon icon-youtube-play"></i></a></li>
  11. <li><a href="#" target="_blank"><i class="icon icon-rss"></i></a></li>
  12. <li><a href="mailto:hello@example.com"><i class="icon icon-envelope"></i></a></li>
  13. </ul>
  14. </div>

Anyway, you are down to 10 errors now, \

well yes thats valid, but as i said before, you cant use an icon as an image alt, the alt is there for text reader, it is text only... alt="some text that describes the image"

I am trying to accomplish this through CSS:

<h5><FONT COLOR="#F0BB44";FONT FACE="Trebuchet MS"><i>Cosmic Consciousness<br>Using Astrology To Gain Higher Ground</font></i></h5>

The only reason I have not done this yet is because I can not get a styling class to recognize any name. It is in my header, in a media box and i created the class frontmediabox. Then used .frontmediabox to create my css...even used the fixed CSS in the dashboard. Nothing works.

<h5><FONT COLOR="#F0BB44";FONT FACE="Trebuchet MS"><i>Cosmic Consciousness<br>Using Astrology To Gain Higher Ground</font></i></h5>

that isnt valid for a start.

<h5 class="higher-ground">

Cosmic Consciousness<br>Using Astrology To Gain Higher Ground

</h5>

then in css...

.higher-ground {

    font-family: "Trebuchet MS", Helvetica, sans-serif;

    font-style: italic;

    color: #F0BB44;

}

Simon_P I just spent all that time did the best I could with the code...it's almost perfect....and as I suspected STILL HAVING THE ORIGINAL ISSUE:

To restate:

I entered the code so that only I can access the visual editor in chrome.

So now what?

Hi Kim

Can you see in the inspector whats causing the position to change? Is there a margin or padding thats being applied to that area. I would imagine it's related to the login/logout button you have in there, as between the screenshot and the live site its moved from one side of the page to the other when logged in, this is changing the alignment of the icons.

HI kim

There isn't an extra closing tag in the CSS. the CSS media query is setup like this and requires the extra tag. Adding the CSS the way you have is not going to work if you remove the extra }

For every { there needs to be a }

just looking at this issue also and noticed In the left hand media box (displaying the logo) you have added the logo by html using the following

<a href="default.asp">
<A HREF="http://dev.thecosmicpath.com//"><img style="border:0;" src="http://dev.thecosmicpath.com/wp-content/uploads/cosmic-path-logo.png" alt="HTML tutorial" width="445" height="93"></a></p>

</body>

try fixing the errors in the code as there are at least three.

<a href="default.asp"> - you can just delete this

end tag for element "P" which is not open
oads/cosmic-path-logo.png" alt="HTML tutorial" width="445" height="93"></a></p>

 end tag for element "BODY" which is not open
</body>

martin I already fixed these issues for my live site and as I stated the visual editor issue still remains.

I've sent you many emails and questions about the background image CSS. Can you tell me where things are with that. I've optimized as you suggested- compressed photos, fixed HTML, still working on CSS cleaning. All these things I value and are great for the site but nothing really effects the awful load time of that super sizes image. Please at the least can I have a timeframe?! Started the thread on that issue in FEBRUARY. Edited by KimAnn03

James B this is a conflict from the visual editor lock. As it only looks like that when the call for the lock is in use: ie it only happens on chrome when I am logged in as an admin without access to the visual editor.

So even if it was the padding what would I do because it's setup as I want it but only displays unfavorably for other admins (which the owner of the site is and so can't have her looking at a wonky site all the time)
