Simpel DMS site is very slow ?

Question

Posted · Report post

Dear forum,

I've made a very simpel website - it is up and running but it is extremely slow.

I made another site a couple of years ago with Pagelines Pro  - this site obviously contains

a lot more content but it loads much faster.

Any ideas ?

The new very simpel DMS site : www.creo.dk

The old Pagelines Pro : www.der3raum.com

Best regards

Lasse

I installed pagelines Pro plugin, I re applied you can see the result now, is his a bug ?

CDN Settings CDN  Enable the simple CDN. Your CDN PULL zone.

An example of your pullzone might be: cdn..greenroostermarket.com

http://screencast.com/t/hlcGnvce

You should not enable CDN if you dont know what a CDN is, PLUS you actually need a CDN account with maxcdn or amazon etc.

Hi Lasse,

It sounds like it could be server related. However, before place the blame, would it be possible for you to enable PL Debug mode in DMS please. You can do this by going to DMS Toolbar > Global Options > Advanced.

Once enabled, reply here and we can take a closer look.

Hi laka74 - I took a look at your debug file and a couple of red flags came up. The first one is that you're host is running PHP 5.2 and we'd ideally like to see the latest version. You could write to their support and ask them to update. There is also an issue in the line PHP Magic Quotes gpc : Yes (bad) which also makes me think it's a server issue.

You could try to disable all plugins and see if that helps as well.

Hi Jake,

Thanks for your answer. So you think I should try contacting the host/provider to see af they can update.
What is the latest PHP ?

Best regards
Lasse

Hi Lasse,

I've tested your website on http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/?testurl=www.creo.dk#!/ehSIdQ/www.creo.dk

I found that it takes about 2.5 seconds wait time for your server to load.  This is 50% of the total load time of 5 seconds.  Thus there is a server related problem in simply getting your domain name to load.  You should address this with your hosting company.

Once this 2.5 second wait period is resolved, then the load time for the entire site should be 2.5 seconds which is excellent time.

Hi Rob,

Thanks - this confirms that it must be a server related issue. I will contact our host.

Best regards

Lasse

You have several issues slowing the load, including one large image and what seems to be two plugins.

See http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/cfz4BV/http://www.greenroostermarket.com

Deactivate the Advanced Browser Check plugin, as well as something to do with human checking. They are the worst culprits.

Rob I deactivated most plugins, the tests seem to be going back to images even blog images which are 150x150 px.  last test shows images slowing it and they seem to be pagelines images ?

Something doesn't seem right why are the images impacting speed so much.?

So update on this, Ive done a complete uninstall , fresh dms install, as well as Pagelines Pro, enabling simple CDN gave me me an ok time 3-4 secs, but if blows the site up.

I removed CDN , the site corrects itself images show etc, but Im back up to 7.2 sec load time.

Something either with DMS or my host, not sure. Ive tested other sites on my host and they are down around 2-3 secs load times so Im leaning towards DMS.

@j powers

Your issue is probably related to the fact that you're using Shared Hosting and that your web host provider has crammed 999 other websites on the same server, all using the same resources.

http://d.pr/i/YkM5

I recommend you either switch from shared hosting as its cheap hosting and therefore, isn't known for its performance or move to a new web host provider such as -  http://getflywheel.com/

Also, Debug mode doesn't appear to be enabled, DMS Toolbar > Global Options > Advanced.

Thanks for the reply Danny, I enabled debug, Im not sure that the cheap host is the issue. Ive tested other sites that are on the same server and their speeds are very good.

Any thoughts on why enabling CDN deconstructs the site ?

The issue is your host please believe me. Other sites that are on the same server may not be using a CMS such as Wordpress, plugins, a theme, lots of scripts which you're using.

Shared Hosting is perfectly fine if you want a static website, but yours is dynamic. Therefore, Shared hosting is simply not an option. SHared hosting is cheap and cheap for a reason, its very poor.

If you want a website that doesn't have performance issues, you don't want to being using Shared hosting.

What do you mean by enabling a CDN, what CDN are you using and how did you enable it ?

I just looked at the Pingdom report http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/dkwAK/http://www.greenroostermarket.com

It's taking almost 11 seconds to load the domain, and less than 1 second to load every other component, and that's without DMS installed.

Clearly, you have server problems or, rather, your host does.   I can see that your hosting company is packing thousands of domains into the same nameserver, and one can reasonably conclude they're packing hundreds (doubtlessly too many) into each server.

I think you need a new hosting plan, and preferably a VPS plan with controls you can use to set memory, etc.
