Newbie- I want to separate my header template area from hitting the top bar

Question

Posted · Report post

I'm a newbie, so I'm still learning.  I can't seem to figure out how to separate the header template area from the top of the site, or top bar at the very top of the site.  What I want is to bring the header template area down some, so that you can see my background image.

I don't know how to even go about giving that a class, or code it in custom code.  Can anyone help me please.

Thanks.

I presume you're referring to the fixed nav menu at the top.

You can go to your site in Chrome (must be logged in as admin) and click Global Options.

You'll see a list on the left in the editor.  One of the options is NavBar.  You can deactivate the fixed navbar there by unchecking "Enable Fixed Navigation Bar".

If you're trying to keep the fixed nav bar but add space, you can use CSS by adding padding or margin at the top.  You'd find the element, using a tool like Firebug for Firefox and locate the element.

Here's an example of something that might work:

#header {margin-top: 25px;}

Add that to Custom Code.

Let us know if it works. If it does, you can play with the number to see what works best.
