DMS Navbar Issue: If there is a child page, button doesn't work

Question

Posted · Report post

In the DMS front end, at Global Settings > NavBar, I selected "Enable Fixed Navigation Bar."

Issue: The top-level button does not work when there is at least one child page under it. I guess this is by design, since some folks prefer this kind of behavior. However, I'd like the top-level button to function. Is there a way to make it so?

If you add NavBar to the top of your Header Section, it will be at the top of the page, but it will not be locked there.

Hi,

This is as you said by design but not by us. The NavBar section and Fixed NavBar are based on Bootstraps navigation design and any menu item that has a submenu is activated upon click. Therefore, the parent menu item becomes an anchor and is no longer a link.

A work around is to do what other websites powered by Bootstrap have done and use this anchor to inform your visitors that the submenu will house specific pages/content.

For example, the Font Awesome website - http://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/

Their examples menu, is called Examples and then links to all example categories but it also at the top contains an example submenu item, which links to the examples page.

Danny, your explanation is helpful--and I see what you mean about the work around.

I guess I'm now going to want to explore other main menu options. If I deactivate the menu provided by DMS, I guess I'd have to do some customizing to get it to appear at the very top edge of the page.
