Translation/Localization of DMS to your own language

Question

Posted (edited) · Report post

Hi everyone,

In a collaborative efford to keep up with the new open-source DMS structure, I created a project on Transifex to manage the several languages and add them to the next versions of PageLines DMS, hosted on GitHub.

Transifex is a free online tool to open-source projects, yet powerful and simple enough to use and rely on.

If you are interested in joining a team of compromised translators, please visit the link below and create/add to your account.

>>> https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/pagelines-dms/

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, buddy! I'm from Curitiba, too! Sunny day, hum?

I'm intent to use DMS in portuguese, at least in the front end - actually just in the front end. Can you you give me a hand? =]

Just wondering, if there is a special naming for the translation files? Like...

language/

pagelines-dms-de_DE.po

pagelines-dms-de_DE.mo

???

Asking, because this info is missing in: http://docs.pagelines.com/advanced/translating-dms

and I do not get it to work.

Looking for help - thank you :)

Hi,

Just name them de_DE.po and de_DE.mo and put them in wp-content\themes\dms\language.

For me, as far as I'm aware,  it doesn't work when put in child theme (see doc) i.e. wp-content\themes\my-child-theme-for-dms\language.

Didn' try yet in customize plugin.

Regards.

Great - thank you for your fast info.

In the folder dms/language/ with the file names de_DE.po and de_DE.mo the translation works fine.

Thank you again - I appreciate your help soooooo much :)

pageslines -> But it would be perfect, if it also works in the child theme folder.

onlineprofiler, do you have the de_DE files ready?
If yes, please collaborate with the community sending them to the Transifex Project

If you prefer, send me the files and I upload them.
Thanks in advance

onlineprofiler I answered you about the proper naming of DMS .po/.mo files (ie. de-DE, fr-FR, etc.) without checking your assertion "info is missing in doc". Actually, it is duly mentioned in the Poedit section  ;): my bad! But it should probably be emphasized in the documentation, even though DMS just abides by the WP naming conventions for theme localization & translation ("Wach Out - DO name your MO file as locale.mo (e.g., da_DK.mo) - DO NOT name your MO file as my_theme-da_DK.mo" in Codex: http://codex.wordpress.org/I18n_for_WordPress_Developers).

Danny aka Houston, We've Got a Problem ;) We're supposed to "Update Safe - By using either the Base Theme or PageLines Customize Plugin and creating a language folder, your custom translations will be safe from updates. Create the language folder in the following location."For me and all users I read, the child theme method doesn't work. As far as I'm aware, the two methods working atm to display our custom translations are:

  • the one you don't recommend i.e. creating a language folder in DMS "main" theme, put our files there, and reload them after each DMS update;
  • using the - not yet available online in store - free Customize Plugin: works for me using the v2 one (\wp-content\plugins\pagelines-customize) I copied & pasted from another install.
[please note: the "plugin-pagelines-customize.zip" here http://launchpad.pagelines.com/api/store_free/ is corrupted + creating a language folder in the unzipped "plugin-pagelines-child-editor.zip" found here too doesn't work either]

Should I report this issue on GitHub tracker, or do I miss something?

.mo & .po files put in a language folder in a child theme (tried all configurations I could imagine) --> does'nt work. If I'm wrong or miss sthg, good news and forget it ;) !

Just would like to give you an update, too.

I am using the newest WP (German de_DE) and PageLines DMS Versions.

But if I integrate a folder language in my child theme and put both translation files (.mo/.po) inside, it does not work.

In order to have the translation in German (which is quite important to me ;-) I do have to integrate the German language files in the dms/language/ folder.

So the concept described in the PageLines docs does not jet work fine.

Would be great, if it could be reported to the Dev Department to fix.

Thank you in advance :)

German translation is ready. I would like to thank Julian and Dominik who even put their hands on to get it ready.

You can download the translation here:

https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/pagelines-dms/

If you do not have a tool to convert to .po /.mo you might download the .zip with both files from my site:

http://www.onlineprofiler.de/content/pagelines-dms-sprachdatei-deutsch/

If you might have questions or find some mistakes, please let me know!

Nice greetings,

Sii

What is all this. Can we please provide a funktionell doc on how to get language to work. I have now the latest DMS and I have put language files in both Customize plug in as well as the base theme but it still does not work.

Where shall i put the po and mo files. In the base them or the customize folder. What shall i namen them? Since obviously

sv_SE.po doesn't work.

pehja

no worries ;-) it works fine now.

Put the language files in the child theme folder under: childtheme/language/ (no s!!! on language)

The naming is sv_SE.po and sv_SE.mo - that's right.

If you are using DMS 1.0.4 it should work.

If you are using a version less then 1.0.4 you need to change the includes/init.globals.php file. You might find it on GH. I trie to find the link and will post it later.

Nice greetings,

Sii

It has always worked using the Customize Plugin folder, as mentioned above ;)

I fixed it for the child theme, as mentioned above by me Sept, 13 and right now by @onlineprofiler   ;)

See this other thread for further details on how to find & use .pot & .po files, with the one and only working "Translation Center", i.e. the Transifex project mentioned above and that I coordinate ;)

If you still have issues, I'll be glad to help you.

Best regards.
