Facebook posting/sharing

Question

Posted · Report post

Hi,

Whenver a post a link to my site (home page or blog posts) to facebook, it won't show the featured image nor the post excerpt. Strangely, the same doesn't happen when I post a page link.

I'd like to know what I can do to fix it. Here are a few links for you to test and see what I mean:

Home page link: http://www.fernandosouza.org/

Randome page link: http://www.fernandosouza.org/ingles-para-negocios/

Random post page: http://www.fernandosouza.org/2013/06/23/melhores-professores-de-ingles-nao-sao-britanicos-nem-americanos-diz-linguista-britanico/

Anybody has an idea of what may be happening?

Thanks

Hello Fernando

Can you contact your host and ask them to disable 'PHP MAgic quotes' as shown in your PL debug

'PHP MAgic quotes' is deprecated functionality no longer needed in more recent versions of PHP

Remember your thumbnails need to be set a certain way in order for them to show on Facebook. What are the size differences of the images?

When i try this out >>> http://www.fernandosouza.org/2013/06/23/melhores-professores-de-ingles-nao-sao-britanicos-nem-americanos-diz-linguista-britanico/ doesnt show the image on Facebook but does show the excerpt

There is a discussion regarding this on the Wordpress Support forum http://wordpress.org/support/topic/featured-image-of-post-not-showing-up-when-publicized-to-facebook  and some suggested fixes are in there too. (images sizes etc)

So from the chat conversation this is a plugin conflict. Advised to disable all plugins and retest after each one.

awaiting result of testing by fernando.

Plugins have been disactivated and reactivated many times and I still haven't a clue...

Strangely, only the link below can share properly on Facebook:

http://www.fernandosouza.org/2013/06/23/melhores-professores-de-ingles-nao-sao-britanicos-nem-americanos-diz-linguista-britanico/

Others, such as the one below don't.

http://www.fernandosouza.org/2013/06/23/in-spite-of-despite-although/

Please, try yourselves and you'll see.

At the moment, only Pagelines plugins and Askimet are activated.

PHP was upgraded to 5.4, which doesn't have PHP MAgic quotes anymore.

Problem still continues.

Now what?

The error points to 'Admins And App ID Missing: fb:admins and fb:app_id tags are missing'. These tags are necessary for Facebook to render a News Feed story that generates a high click-through rate.

i have done some research on this and so long as you have Open Graph enabled in your header (PAgelines > Site options > Header And footer) you shouldnt get these errors.

Also you can find more information regarding this here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10836135/when-do-i-need-a-fbapp-id-or-fbadmins

The Facebook docs are reasonably helpful also https://developers.facebook.com/docs/

Thanks Martin. Sharing on Facebook is indeed working since I disabled the plugin. However, I found it very strange to still have the erros mentioned. Anyway, I think I'll just ignore them.

Thanks for help.

Please use the facebook debug tool and follow what it says.

https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fernandosouza.org%2F2013%2F06%2F23%2Fmelhores-professores-de-ingles-nao-sao-britanicos-nem-americanos-diz-linguista-britanico%2F

You are using multiple plugins/hack whatever to add the fb og:image code, its actually about 6 times in your page, it must be once only.

I found one that was causing the conflict mentioned above. Now a new error message appears. Does anybody know what it means and how to fix it?
