Akismet issues

Best Answer James B , 13 April 2013 - 03:53 AM

Ok so it's definitely a problem askimet or your install. Looking through the threads on wordpress.org it seems that some people are having that problem due to the version of php they're using, so it would be worth looking into that. I think your best course of action will be to speak to your host, get them to check your error log to see if there are any problems there they can diagnose and contact askimet - http://akismet.com/support/ to see what they suggest. It could be that something's set up incorrectly or might be an issue their end.

Double check your api key to make sure it's correct.

As soon as I have activated the Akismet plugin, my site crashes. I get the error :

The website encountered an error while retrieving

. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestions:

HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

Can someone please HELP!?

To troubleshoot your issue, please deactivate ALL active non-PageLines plugins except for Akismet and see if the problem persists. If the problem does not persist, re-activate each plugin one at a time and keep checking your site each time to spot the problem plugin. When you spot it, please leave that plugin deactivated since it was causing the issue in the first place.

I have deactivated ALL plugins - except pagelines and akismet. The problem still remains. Gives the same message...

Hi there, if you're using a cache plugin make sure you dump the cache file before deactivating all the plugins. Then clear the cache in your browser and check the site again.

Are you using the latest edition of askimet and any other plugins? If not try updating them. Check askimet is set up correctly. If you switch to the twenty twelve theme, do you still get the askimet error?

If none of the above works check with your host and take a look at the error log to see if any errors have been recorded. See

which has some solutions which might be able to help further.
