posts lose images and formatting

post images formatting

Best Answer James B , 11 April 2013 - 04:28 AM

I've copied your html and inserted your image into a new post on my test site and gone back and fourth through the site and come back and it's still there - http://screencast.com/t/EZ6TwgUxccaF

Looking in your code it doesn't seem like the image is there at all in the html. My guess would be either a plugin was stripping out the image tags, or somehow it's reverting to a previous version of the post. Do you have any drafts or autosave versions of this post

This is what happened with this post before - http://www.pagelines...ts/#entry151555

Hi All,

I've got a very weird problem that I'd love some help with if possible.

My posts keep losing all their images and formatting...

When I first publish a post with an image on it is fine.  But when I navigate away and back again the images disappears.

For example, this page:

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

contains this code:

<img class="size-full wp-image-959 alignleft" alt="spreadsheet example" src="

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

" width="800" height="308" />I used to spend much of my day poring over spreadsheets, reports and business documents and now I spend them poring over photos.  This has given me an invaluable insight into why you need to leave your spreadsheets (or any other type of work) behind, pick up your camera and get out there and shoot! Here’s my top 5 reasons that photos are better than spreadsheets:
<ol>
      <li>You’ll never pick up and old spreadsheet that brings a tear to your eye (unless it’s an old budget statement and that’s the wrong kind of tear!)</li>
      <li>Spreadsheets can’t show sunsets</li>
      <li>You don’t normally create a spreadsheet on a *windswept mountain / *beautiful beach / *next to rugged coast line (*delete as appropriate)</li>
      <li>Your photos won’t tell you how poor you are</li>
      <li>Nobody will look at your spreadsheet and say ‘I wish I was with you in your office when you made that’</li>
</ol>
And one reason that spreadsheets are better than photos
<ol>
       <li>You’re not likely to keep buying the next expensive spreadsheet producer that comes out!</li>
</ol>

However, the images, the paragraphs and the bullet points disappear.  However, if I click 'update' they come back until I navigate away and back again.

I have tried deleting all my custom CSS and disabling my plugins but it is still the same.

Any help would be incredibly appreciated!!

Many thanks,

Glyn

Hi Glyn,

So when you're editing and re-saving are you doing this in the visual or text edit screen of the post? Or do you have thumbnails set to insert into the post by default in the blogs and posts tab? Looking at the source code it's showing the article isn't set to display a thumb by default -

I can see your plugins and css is still showing on the site, have you enabled again since posting?

Hi James,

Thanks for your reply.  It doesn't make a difference if i edit in visual or text, after I click update it's OK the first time I view the page, but as soon as I navigate away and back all the formatting and images are lost, but the code remains the same on the page.

The article is not showing a thumb as the image is part of the article text.  If I set it to show the thumbnail then it will, but I want it to show the images in the text as some of my posts have several.

I have enabled my plugins and CSS again, but I can easily disable for a short time....

Thanks,

Glyn

Hi Glyn

Are you adding the image manually into the page area, or via the insert media tab inside the post?

HI James,

When I did it before I just clicked 'update', viewed the post and thought it was OK.  I did not notice that when I left the post and came back it had gone...

If I look at the 'revisions' list then I find that everything in the 'Old' section is how the post shows when I come back to it - i.e. without the image and bullets.  The 'new' or 'current' is with the image and formatting (see screenshot), so it does seem to be reverting to a previous version - but the previous version has been changed because I have updated it so many times while looking at this fault that all the previous revisions should be the same - with formatting and image....

HI James,

It's a plug in... I have disabled all plugins and then gone back to the revisions of the pages and re-instated a previous version and it works... I thought it didn't because before, because even after deactivating the plugins it was the same - but I had to go back to a previous version as well.  So I will reactivate the plugins one by one to find out which one it is....

Thanks for your help!

I can see it on the site now, I'm not sure if you've changed anything or re-saved.

Ok maybe try copying all the text into a new post, then insert the image, call the post something different so just the content is the same. Then publish and see if the problem repeats with the new post.

If it does, try switching to the twenty twelve theme and see if the problem continues to happen inside the standard wordpress theme.

Let us know the results and we'll go from there.

Oh I just seen you're other post, we must have been typing at the same time.

I'm glad you got it sorted :-)

Let us know which one it is when you find it

HI James,

It was SEOPressor.  They knew about it and have recently provided a fix, I downloaded it and it is fine now....

Cheers,
