The BrandNav is responsive, when viewed on a tablet/phone, the menu should position itself below the logo image.

but does not become a navbar . On a phone it takes up a lot of real estate

The BrandNav can't be replaced with responsive NavBar because the NavBar is already its own navigation/section (and it cannot be cloned). Do you just want the BrandNav to behave responsively like the NavBar?

Yes and have the same style. If it would be easier to use branding section and then put the navbar in with a hook.

You may want to engage one of our Pros to provide you with specific guidance if the information you want isn't in that link or in the Documentation.

The BrandNav is behaving exactly as it should, as pictured in the uploaded image.  You may need to use NavBar with Branding instead of BrandNav if you desire a different mobile view.
