Hi Mike,

As you know, I came into the end of the discussion of Live, not the beginning, so please give a bit more detail here so my colleagues and I can dig a bit further.

I must point out that in testing the product so far,  you seem to have its settings and concept backwards.

The plugin is designed to expand an image to full width.  That means you do not need a 2744px wide image to fill the screen. This is why it's important to read instructions for plugins.

I've been able to make the plugin work on my own site, however, because the shortcode is going into the canvas area it doesn't align left.  If that was the problem you were experiencing, it may be simply that the canvas area is never full width.

To make the shortcode work in a full-width area one would have to apply it to a full width section such as the header.

You can try placing the Full Width or Universal Sidebar in the header area as the last item, then apply a text widget and include the shortcode in there. Make sure the layout is full width responsive with % width.

I will continue testing, provided I have power.

Robert,

First of all the developer gives no information on how to figure out image sizes. But basically to be able to see a zoomed in photo you need to have an image larger than the slider. otherwise it would pixalate. So I think you might be a bit confused. If the slider is 1920 wide and you want an image to zoom in 50% the original image needs to be that much bigger.

Its very important that you read the instructions. Unfortunately the developer does not explain how to figure out what the image size needs to be for any particular slider. I had to email him and ask. Sliders can be any size. You also have to remember that the aspect ratio of the slider be the same as the enlarged image. Here is what I got from the developer.
I asked

Hi Laurence,

I need to know the math behind
creating different size sliders. What percentage
do I need to increase the image size to accommodate the ken burns effect.
Slider 1920x600 Image 2500x781. The increase is 1.302% is that correct? You say
on your sample page that “We've created
a number of standard banners, all included in the download .zip. Of course, you
can create banners having any dimension you need.

Just click on the banner you want to see it in action.” I don’t see them in the zip?.

Regards

he answered

Hello Mike,

The text remained from
the jQuery plugin preview, I’ve removed it. Because is a WordPress plugin all
the settings are done from WP admin so we can’t include the files because will
be of no use in wordpress.

There’s not percentage
to increase or decrease the slider. You need to take into account the banner
dimensions and final-zoom or initial-zoom parameters.

Lets say you have a
slider with this dimensions sliderW x sliderH and initial-zoom=1 & final-zoom=0.7

The image dimensions
will be calculated with this simple formula:

ImageW * 0.7 =sliderW => ImageW = sliderW/ 0.7
ImageH * 0.7 =sliderH => ImageH = sliderH / 0.7

On your theme I see you
have a problem with the scaling so you’ll need to make the images a little
bigger or have a bigger final-zoom

Best regards,

Laurence

You need to take
1920px to be the maximum slider dimension for monitor resolution in order for the
image to look ok on all monitors.

If your image is
2500px wide, to get it to 1920 you’ll need to have final zoom=0.77

and this

Subject: RE:
Hi Laurence,

Not sure I understand. Lets say
my slider is 1000 and initial-zoom=1 & final-zoom=0.7 so……

ImageW = sliderW / 0.7
1428.56 = 1000/0.7

So if the slider is 1920
2742.86 = 1000/0.7

What do I do about thumbnails?

his answer

Yes, is correct.
At 1920 you wrote
2742.86 = 1000/0.7 and it should be 2742.86 = 1920/0.7 (I believe it was a
mistype because the result was correct)

Of course you’ll put the
images with round numbers 1430 or 2750

The thumbs will always
be the same

Best regards,

Laurence

So Robert

I don't really have it backward.

I will try putting it into the header, that seems like a great idea.

Thanks

I think to add it into the header you have to use

<?php echo do_shortcode(‘[lbg_kenburnsslider settings_id=’1’]’); ?>

Robert you also said

You can try placing the Full Width or Universal Sidebar in the header area as the last item

If I go to the drag and drop template setup and select header Full Width or Universal Sidebar is not an available option. How would I do that then?

Hi Mike,

I am not entirely sure what the issue is here, as I wasn't present in Live chat. Therefore, can you inform us which Slider you're attempting to use please.

Mike,

If you don't have Full WIdth or Universal Sections then let's start with the fact that PageLines Framework isn't installed completely.

Go to Dashboard > PageLines > Store.  First thing you should see is a dashed bordered box with an option to install PageLines Sections Plugin.  Please install it.  Then those sections will appear available in the Header in Drag & Drop.

Let me point out that anyone purchasing a plugin that has insufficient instructions gets what they deserve: trouble. That's not a bad idea, it's a darn awful idea.

You don't need PHP code to add information into the header in a plugin and if you do, you WILL void the terms of service, including support if you edit core files.  Not to mention, the next update will wipe out the changes. At that point, you'd not have any support help to fix it, so think twice there.

I've tried your image, my images, adding it to the header, changing the layout from left to right, widening my content area, etc.  My confusion comes from a lack of specifics about the problem you're having with it.  I don't worry about the scaling issues as those are between you and the developer.  Please specify what's wrong with the product within PageLines.  That's all I'm concerned with.

Hi Rob,

Pagelines is installed correctly. you said

You can try placing the Full Width or Universal Sidebar in the header area

There is no section called Full Width in the drag and drop template setup page.  There is a Universal Sidebar but  I'm confused did you not log in to my site and have a look around.? I have placed the slider in a content box in the header area. Same Problem. If you could look at the post I mentioned just before you post above. You actually posted in november this

I just want it to look like this

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

I'm confused do you work for pagelines in a technical role or just another user on the forum? It does say staff under your profile. You said

 I don't worry about the scaling issues as those are between you and the developer.  Please specify what's wrong with the product within PageLines.  That's all I'm concerned with.

The scaling is exactly the issue i'm having. The problem is pageline has .img definitions that are causing scaling problems.

If you had bothered to read the posts above you would understand what the specific problem is.

Please take time to read what I have posted you seem to be replying without all the information.

So your saying you have this slider installed that is the full width of the browser window. Please send me the link I would love to see it.

Sorry I seem so frustrated but have had this issue since november.

Hi Mike,

This is actually an escalated issue, so I am going to be consulting with our developer to see if there is anything else we can do on our end to advise you further.  We will be in contact when we have more information available.

Thanks Meilena,

here is what the developer says"
The theme you are using is forcing all the images to scale. Please contact the theme builder and ask them if they have a solution for this. I didn’t find any other solution. All I tried was ignored by the theme.
You can also change the theme and show them that the product works correctly."

Right, got to the bottom of this.

You are using the shortcode in the wrong place.

If you place the shortcode in the content area, then the slider is going to be restricted to that area. Same goes if you place it in the header.

You wanted the slider at the top of the page and to go full width right? So you have to insert the shortcode before the framework starts to draw out all the responsive areas.

For that you wil need to use a wp action.

So install and activate the pagelines-customization plugin or use a child theme, choice is yours here.

Now add this snippet to the functions.php file in either the plugin or child theme.

That will insert your shortcode right at the top.

When I add that code to the functions.php file in the child theme "Base" it breaks the site.

add_action( 'pagelines_before_page', 'draw_myslides' );

function draw_myslides() {

    echo do_shortcode( '[lbg_kenburnsslider settings_id='2']' );
}
