making a splash page

Best Answer Rob , 01 February 2013 - 02:11 AM

Okay, here's what you add at the bottom of the PageLines Customize Plugin's functions.php.

add_filter('pagelines_site_logo', 'my_header');

function my_header($header) {
  $header = sprintf('<a class="mainlogo-link" href="%s" title="%s"><img class="mainlogo-img" src="%s" alt="%s" /></a>', 'http://www.THEFULLURL.com/toyourpage/', get_bloginfo('name'), esc_url(pagelines_option('pagelines_custom_logo')), get_bloginfo('name'));
  return $header;
}
// end function

This works for me.

I want to create a very basic splash page that displays a logo centered on a grey background. Once the visitor clicks on the logo they are taken to the homepage. What is the best way to accomplish this?

If I go to the Reading Settings and change the Front Page to my splash page, that will load the splash page when I go to the main domain URL, but then it will also lead visitors back to this page when they click on the logo or site name in the header / nav, which I do not want.

Is there a simple method for creating a page that someone only sees when they visit the primary URL of the site, which has a link on it to the homepage of the website?

Hi,

The simplest way to create a Splash page would be to use the LaunchPage plugin available on the PageLines store.

Hi Danny,

I purchased Launchpage but it isn't working how I would expect it to work.

I created the splash page and clicked on the button to "Make Launch Page"

Then I saved meta settings and updated the page as well.

When I visit my website, the homepage displays, not the splash page.

How do I make the splash page display when people visit the main URL of the website, but still keep my current static homepage the primary homepage of the site? If I change the static homepage to my splash page, won't that mess up the navigation of the site?

Did you select the "Make Launch Page" option on the page that is set as your current static home page?

No.

Sorry, I don't understand.

I don't want my static homepage to be the splash page. I want the splash page I created to be the splash page.

I want to have a splash page display when people visit www.mywebsite.com. Then they click on a link and are taken to the current static homepage.

If I make the splash page the static homepage, won't my navigation get messed up? If someone clicks on the logo they'll be taken back to the splash page right? I only want visitors to see the splash page when they visit the base URL. After there shouldn't be any link back to that page.

I haven't messed around with LaunchPage or using different landing pages too much, but I'm sure there's a way with htaccess or maybe your domain settings to make a select URL the landing page for your site. Wish I had more info for you but this is something I haven't had a need to do.

i'll try that route. Launchpage should have this function. that's what I was expecting, and Danny seemed to indicate that was doable.

Hi,

There's ways to handle this navigation issue. Relatively simple ones.

As you point out, the clients would be redirected to the default home page, whether it's the launchpage or some other static page. However, if you create a static page you'd like to be the homepage, just use the Menu via Dashboard > Appearance > Menus to create a Home link (using Customized Links) to that page rather than the launch page.

We can also provide you with a hook to change the default brand link to whatever page within your site you'd prefer. Let us know if this would work for you.

Rob, yes please! I've never used hooks but it's about time. The menu is already customized like you said. It's the default brand link that concerns me. Please advise.
