IE9 Issue - Sidebars not showing in the right place.

ie9 layout sidebars css

Best Answer Simon_P , 07 January 2013 - 01:57 PM

Your server is adding this to the header of every PHP page: http://screencast.com/t/OMilJoxM2gsi

Basically tells internet explorer to only work in ie7 mode.

Contact your host and ask why this is.

Hello! Guys,

I've just found out that my site is not showing the sidebars in the right place of the page, they are showing bellow the post and the green page background i've added is not working, the Social icons are shown in the opposite side as well.

If you open the site using Chrome or Mozilla there is no problem, the issue happens only with IE. The version i used for test was IE9.

That looks like a plugin is affecting it.  My guess is, the chat window is at fault.

Please deactivate all your non-PageLines plugins.  Leave only the plugins you found via The Store and Akismet.

Hi,

Can you use the PageLines Grid to create that layout and see if this resolves your issue. Although I cant see the issue, as I am not able to check IE, if the Sidebar is appearing below the content, its most likely caused by either your images or the table HTML.

I used the pagelines-customize instead of base theme.

I was able to deactivated the pagelines-customize via control panel, but could not do the same with base theme. I've commented the codes i used for test in both files style.css and functions.php/basetheme, the files still in the themes/pagelines-template-theme folder should i remove it?

I think the grid is not going to resolve the issue, i took out all the codes i used, even the menu widgets and the css, social menu all still being shown different when i browse with IE.

Ok, well PageLines certainly works with IE9. The most common cause of the Sidebar appearing below the content, is issues with the HTML you have added to the page. Some plugins may even cause this issue.

I recommend you review the code you used to add those images to your page. Also as a test, simply add some basic text and see if the the Sidebar is in the correct position, if so then its definitely your HTML code.

If the text method still displays the sidebar below the content, then it has to be a plugin or custom code you have added to your site.

I did deactivate all the plugins and the sections i added. There is no extra HTML code running in the widgets at the moment, i also did the test with a simple text following your recommendations and it shown the sidebar in the wrong position when i use IE.

Here are the pictures of the site using ie and firefox.

I'm going to review the code i use for the images as you said.

Is there any other test i can do?

 Many thanks!

What happens if you reduce the width of the sidebars using custom CSS (see here:

and

)?

Hi! Catrina,

It reduces the sidebar and goes a little bit more for the right side, but still bellow the line of the page.

This issue is ocurring in every page not only in pages with image.

Check that compatibility mode is turned off in IE. This has been know to cause the sidebars to display like that.

Hi! James,

I deactivated the compatibility mode, didn't solve the problem.

I'm going to put the codes and widgets back and look at the source codes via IE.

Thanks!

Despite this issue i activated the plugins and put all the codes back to the widgets to make a test, but now the main blog page, contact pages and other pages are not updating the sidebar.

Hello! Guys,

I don't know what to do anymore. As i'm trying to solve the problem i'm causing more errors.

I deactivated all the extra plugins i added and extra codes inside the widgets, my guess is, if it is not any of these codes i used that is causing the problem then it's pagelines or wordpress.

 I still need help.

thanks!

It's the browser paired with either PL or WP that's the main issue. What if you try using the browser-specific CSS plugin (

) to adjust the sidebar position (to bring it up)?

Hello! Is it possible to somebody of the pagelines staff have a look at my site configurations?

I've already done a lot of test, deactivated all the plugins, took out all the html and extra css from the widgets.
