Play Video in Post

Question

Posted · Report post

I cannot get a YouTube or Vimeo video to play in a pop-up player on my post page.  I can link with:

youtu.be/HUKlSkaApdY

But when I use:

youtube.com/watch?v=HUKlSkaApdY&feature=youtu.be

...the pop-up player loads but nothing plays.

I use Pagelines most current version and Wordpress most current version as well.  I have JetPack installed as well.

What do you think?

Thanks.

Geoff

Well I am still working on it.  Does the Pagelines modal give ne the option to post a thumbnail and when clicked the video will play in a pop?

Geoff,

If the video page is using a plugin to display the videos and the posts are not, that's doubtlessly the cause.  However, I was concerned by your mention of putting it on a blog page.

I can't think of what would stop our modal from working in a post unless there's some conflict with the plugin. Have you looked for other possible modal/popup video plugins?

I'm not sure if you can do it easily but essentially, you should be able to wrap the modal shortcode in a div, then apply a background to a specific class or ID with CSS. That could be a small thumbnail, I suppose.   As I've never tested this, I can't assure you this would work.

Yes I use Shadowbox for my Video page to play the YouTube and Vimeo Gallery plugin. So you are saying Shadowbox is not playing the video in the popup? Mmmmm...I will have to check into that with the author because it work's great on my Video page.

The modal button pop-up is pretty cool but it drops to the bottom of the page and when I try to pull it up it shoots straight up and disappears off the page but I can still hear it playing :-O Wow - pretty weird.  I don't really want to add that to every post but I will keep it in mind...as long as it does shoot all over the page :-)

iFrame rather than link to YouTube.  Not embedded.

I'm not sure, maybe something in the popup is conflicting with the page? If you put the popup on another page or as a test in the twenty ten theme  to see if it works in there, then we can tell if it's a conflict with the Framework.

If you can provide us with a link to the page with the popup we'll see if we can spot anything.

Have you tried deactivating all other active plugins to see if the problem persists?

Hi,

You appear to be using a plugin called Boxify, I recommend you attempt to do what you want in a normal page so that you're not using the plugin and see if this resolves your issue.

If it doesn't can you provide us with the code you're using please to our pastie service and then share the link - http://paste.pagelines.com/

OK, I finally had some time to play withb this.

The issue is NOT Boxify.  The issue is when you link an image with the YouTube linking options:

1.

This option causes a pop-up frame to appear in front of the image but it does not play.  That is my question.  Why does it not play?

This one links to the YouTube url for that video and the video plays on YouTube.

I want option #1 to work and play the video on my website without embedding it.

Does that make sense and can you help me?

Thanks.

Geoff

For the modal button question or Shadowbox question? Either way ....hahaha.  I am not comfortable deactivating all my plug-ins that are active and crucial to the working of my site and mess up my entire site to see if it is a conflict.   As detailed above, Shadowbox works great on my video page.  Not on my blog page.  No worries.  I will work with the developer.

I don't have a clue about the modal button being a conflict but I do not want to use it anyway.

Thanks for your time.

I apologize if I misunderstood, but did you add content (the modal code) into the edit field of your static blog page in the edit box?

Well...I am n sure what you are saying to do.  All I did was place the video code in the place below and pasted into the html coding page of the blog.

1
2
3
[pl_modal title="My awesome video" type="label" colortype="info" label="Watch Now!"]
[/pl_modal]

Actually, I'm not saying to do anything.  I'm just asking which page you added code to and where or how?

See the attached image.

A blog page may not have anything in the edit field. It must be blank, entirely.  While sections may be added to the page, code, text, even a punctuation mark can mess up that page, keep your blog posts from displaying and even mess up other things.

See this for additional information about creating homepages and blog pages:  http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page

This is why I'm asking what and how was it done.

OK, Thanks.  I added the modal code to a draft post.

I put my blog posts in my blog edit field.  I thought that is the purpose complete with punctuation so you are probably talking about something else. I wanted to have a video play on the page in a pop-up player like Shadow Box.

Again. I want my posts to play a video I post there without linking it externally to YouTube (or Vimeo).  Shadow Box pops up but doesn't play. It works fine on my Video page but it is used in connection with Youtube Gallery.

No worries.

Thanks for you help and concern.

Geoff
