Good Local Development Environment for Windows?

Best Answer Vicki , 31 December 2012 - 10:30 AM

Hi Danny,

Thanks for your help  :D

I've installed DesktopServer, which is a WordPress specific program based on XAMPP.  So far so good  :-)

For the Text Editor, I've just installed NetBeans IDE, which may be overkill, but it's free, and I'll give it a go to start with!

Hi there,

I'm a newbie to all this - just joined last night!  I was watching the Developer's training videos and saw the recommendations for a good development environment on the Mac...  However I have a Windows 7 machine!

So, I was wondering if anyone out there can recommend a good local Windows development environment (free is extra good!)  I saw one post mentioned the "Instant WordPress" package as an option...

I'm wondering if anyone has tried the Instant WordPress option, or could receommend anything else please??

Ta muchly from me  :thumbsu:

Hi,

Before I switched to a Mac, I used XAMPP, on my Windows PC. -

Netbeans is definitely overkill.

You might want to look into something much smaller and lightweight, such as Notepad ++
