Recent Posts On A Static Page

Best Answer Rob , 05 December 2012 - 11:30 PM

You may also try Special Recent Posts, which provides excellent options to place a specified number of posts (even by category if you wish) on a page, complete with thumbnail, excerpt, link (customizable) and title.  You may also use it in the sidebar, should you wish to.

It uses shortcodes, so it may be used several times on a page.

Hi there.

What is the best way to get the latest posts displayed with the thumbnail, excerpt etc on a page instead of as a widget in a sidebar.

I am struggling to find a plugin to do this.

I know there is one in the store, but i really don't like the way it works.

Any advice would be helpful.

Have you already tried using Magazine Layout mode instead of Blog Layout mode in Blog And Posts settings?

I wrote an extension called AnyLoop in the store that does just this. Is "..one in the store, but i really don't like the way it works" the same one you're referring to? If so, why about the way that it works that you don't like?

Hi Nick.

No, i bought the "Latest Blog Entries" section, but i want the recent posts to be static and one below the other in a more traditional style.

Title, date, summary. thumbnail, read more.

How does anyloop work for this type of scenario? - I really just want to pull the latest 5 articles / posts and display them on the home page which is a static page.

Hey Rob.

How do i add that code to my page?

Is it as simple as adding it to the text area where i want it to display?

Thats exactly how AnyLoop works.

AnyLoop has several different viewing modes. You can have posts in a grid, you can use it for your main loop, or you can use it in a sidebar in Recent Posts Mode. It also has a shortcode for the Recent Posts mode. The Recent Posts part of AnyLoop does exactly what you're wanting; it pulls the last X posts onto a page to view. You can also show or hide the thumbnail, or title.

You have full control over what posts appear, and from what category. You can have multiple categories. You can show posts from Authors, or multiple Authors. You can also show posts from a Custom Post Type.

Anyways, hope this helps anybody reading this in the future.
