Hi all

I use Godaddy - Ultimate 4GH (shared host)

My web only are a diversion so I have not problem, they have a low price but it is NOT the best, for example

"POSIX functions can not be used on the host shared Godaddy" (they informed me) so you can NOT use the following to wp-config.php right below the WP_DEBUG line:

define( 'LESS_FILE_MODE', true );

So you try another if your web are important and you need speed.

;)

The best type of hosting would certainly always be dedicated server, but if we want to go into specific hosting companies it would then depend on you choosing the appropriate plan for your site's traffic and resource usage.

You also want to ask yourself how much control do you require. In most cases, an optimal environment for PageLines can be achieved with Zippykid, WPEngine, HostGator and obviously PageLines.me. Each of these services offer varying levels of server "environment" (your website's "house") customization and all come with great support. I'd like to throw in MediaTemple's (ve) plan as a good hosting solution if you are comfortable with server administration.

I may elaborate more on this later..

I vote for iWeb Technologies.  Great, affordable dedicated servers.

I'm currently using dreamhost. But I actually find it pretty slow lately. I might consider a switch.

Although not added to the polls list of options, Flywheel is excellent.

I’m quite happy with "Bluehost” because the squad is really obliging in supporting their manipulators particularly for the individuals who has less knowledge in Information Technology.

I wouldn't recommend Media Temple, I've used them in the past and had nothing, but issues with them. Also, this was before they were acquired by GoDaddy, who are also equally as poor.

For me:

Wordpress hosting - FlyWheel

VPS - Linode or Digital Ocean

Dedicated Server - Hertzner

IMHO:

For shared hosting, I recommend Arvixe.

VPS: Linode (I'm a lazy bum, I love their managed service). If you're fine with managing your server yourself, go with DigitalOcean.

Dedicated: LiquidWeb

As I said above, I'm a lazy bum. I don't like figuring out things for myself, I prefer having other people handle them. So the recommendations above are heavily based on my experience with the support teams.

I don't have much experience with unmanaged servers tho (except for Arvixe shared hosting..but...well, it's shared).

EDIT: Also, for those VPS thingies, if you're tired of command line, try serverpilot.io as the control panel.

In the UK myself and most of my clients use TSO host https://www.tsohost.com/. Reason: support tickets answered in less than an hour without snippy replies, fast migration service from other hosts and 1-click install of WP but also full control when you need it.

Never had an issue with TSO in the last couple of years.

Used 1&1 which was ok 10 years ago but awful now and GoDaddy which also stinks.

Hello folks, Whats you opinion of inmotionhosting? Can you all suggest any reliable host with reasonable pricing on VPS hosting and a 24 hour chat support. I am looking for some basic configuration 2 - 4 core RAM, 40-60 gb memory and 1-2 TB band. Thanks

Best hosts for VPS's are either Linode or Digital Ocean and the starter plan is quite cheap too.

Hi @Danny I am on a shared plan with hostgator for the last 4 years and have been quite satisfied with them however I have noticed a gradual decline in their overall customer service over the years.

I had seen that you had recommend Linode and digital ocean in your earlier post as well and you are right, their plans are just too tempting from a price point of view. They seem to know what they are doing and have great reviews too. But the only problem is they have no chat support and for someone like me who is not very comfortable with technical stuff a chat support is must. Even if its not a 24 hour chat support a bare minimum 10 hour support is expected. Getting someone on phone is also not a very viable option considering its going to be an international call for me. Inmotionhosting seem like a good bet even though the current offered pricing on their site is only for the first year
