Hi there.
I added a custom post type yesterday "films" and added a while lot of custom fields to it.
Today when i try to add a new "film", there are no custom fields there.

Do i have to add them every time i add a new custom post type of "film"?
I assumed they would be displayed as fields for the client to just type in the text. Is this an option / possibility?

AAARRRGGHHHH, please help.

Hi there,

How did you add the CTP, via a plugin? Can you give us a little more info on the process you used prior and what form of CPT it was, post, page etc. Then we can look into further for you.

If you can also let us know which page template (if any) it was using. Thanks

Hi James.
Please note i am not a programmer so go easy on me :-)

I am using pagelines framework and the base template/theme.

I added the custom post type by adding some code into the functions.php page.
It is a page and not a post i think... sorry, i think it it is a post

I then created a template single.film.php with the necessary code for the fields to be displayed.
I then used the standard built in custom field area of the admin area (No plugin) to create the fields i needed for the custom post.
I assumed that once created, they would remain visible to simple add text to, but i see that i have to basically select the custom fields from a dropdown, then type in the text and click update for the field to display.

Is there another way of doing this or will they always be "hidden" until added?

As it is for a client, i would like to try and make it as simple as possible for them to maintain.

Hey quinntinm,

This isn't really PageLines related but I'll try to point you in the right direction.

Custom Fields save data as post meta for that post (regardless of type, page, post, or custom post type). The keys you created should show up in the dropdown when adding a new custom field, but it won't show up in the list above that until that post has a value saved for that field.

Try using a plugin like

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

. This will allow you to create some cool easy to use inputs for your custom fields without using the not-so-great custom fields area to interact with them. No programming required ;)

Hi there Evan.
I found 2 plugins that i tried and found to work really nicely.
Simple custom post types & simple fields.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction - i really appreciate the help i am getting from this forum on pagelines and non pagelines info. Really makes me feel like i am on the right platform.
