Header - need editable text under the branding

Question

Posted · Report post

Hi, Lots of newbie panicked questions here. Not sure how to go about this - am using the BrandNav as the regular header was too large. Client wants an editable two lines of text in the header just on top of the page content: one small line of text to the right and one exactly across from it on the left. They will have to edit these two small lines (underlined part only ) xxx begins 6:40pm day / xxx ends: 6:30pm day - weekly. Can't figure out how to do this - activated the Call out - it was huge and ugly - couldn't figure out where to edit it and possibly use it for this. Have been afraid to upgrade my theme or WP... so using the PlatformPro 1.3.5 with the child theme activate and WP 3.1.3. ...and please be very clear - as i am code phobic! Using PlatformPro as a CMS just pages unless a plugin requires posting functionality. What would be the best way of going about this... Thank you!!! Help....

Nevermind - think I have discovered how to do this by editing the callbout section in PlatformPro>templates>header near the bottom - now I just have to remove some of the enormous space vertical it is taking up ....

Will these info be appearing on every page in the header? If so, a hook is the easiest way to go about it. To understand how hooks work and how they can be implemented, please see here: http://www.pagelines.com/docs/base-child-theme. If you need help implementing your hook, we can help you. As for the call out, the edits can be made using CSS. Can you post a link to your site?

Sharon, I think the URL you posted was misspelled. Can you please re-post? If you want to add that text to only the homepage, do you want it inside the header or at the top of the page content (below the navigation)?

Hi Kate, Thanks - yes I did - were there other typos in it? can you help if Catrina is not 'on' today (my tonight - close to midnight here). Need to close out the padding in the brand section - looks really odd now - and kill the title in the call out - kill that padding as well.

I received the log-in information. Thanks! Here's code that should get rid of the callout title and some of the space:

#callout div.callout_text {display: none;}

THANK YOU - and I copy and paste this into the custom code area - with the #sign? and it will keep the callout text but kill the callout title? Am never sure have something similar entered for the brand section that didn't work.... do you have a code to close that up as well? : ) Will let you know if this is working.

Added it in to the custom code and don't see any results... not sure I am doing it correctly... if neither that nor the branding is working. Have this for branding: #branding{ .content-pad{padding-bottom:0px;} Just noticed that my custom code was not in the body tags - but changing that - did nothing either. And this in my custom code section: body{ #sidebar-wrap {background:#FCE6C9} #sidebar1 {background:#FEF0DB} #secondnav {z-index:1000;} #branding{ .content-pad{padding-bottom:0px;} #callout div.callout_text {display: none;} }

#callout .content-pad { padding: 0; } #callout .text-pad { padding: 10px 0px; } Okay - have gotten all of this in there to work but there is still space around the callout text where the title was and it is creating too much space below the callout text and above the feature section - and i can't find it - will wait for your help - have other things with deadlines that I have to start on - and did I say Thank you?!

Hey Sharon, You can try adding the !important declaration to your lines. For instance:

#callout .text-pad {
	padding: 10px 0px !important;
	}

Thanks Kate! 1. will that close the space under the callout and above the feature? 2. Would still be helpful to completely kill the title attribute of the callout - I have just implemented a workaround by giving it a font: 0px

Hi, More trouble - with all of the custom code that I have added I seem to have lost the color in my header - it is still set to #FFFFFF in the design area for the body background - but it has lost that and is now showing the same as the grey page area!! These are my custom codes - do I need to add another or change one. (Just added the important tag now - it was grey before that..... I just hadn't been in to notice: body{} #sidebar-wrap {background:#FCE6C9} #secondnav {z-index:1000;} #brandnav { margin-bottom: 0.7em !important; padding: 13px 0 0; } #callout .callout_head { font-size: 0 } #callout .content-pad { padding: 0; } #callout .text-pad { padding: 15px 10px 0px; } style.css (line 998) h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, h1 a, h2 a, h3 a, h4 a, h5 a, h6 a, a.site-title, .entry-title a, .entry-title a:hover, .widget-title a:hover, h3.widget-title a:hover { color: #000000; } dynami...1140959 (line 79) h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, .site-title { font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",Times,serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: 0; text-transform: none; } dynami...1140959 (line 6) h2 { font-size: 0em; } style.css (line 328) h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 { font-weight: normal; line-height: 0; margin: 0 0 0.1em; padding: 0; } Help! Thank you!!
