Custom CSS v Styles.css 1.5.2 wiped styles

Question

Posted · Report post

Hi guys. I recently updated to 1.5.2 Platform Pro. The changes I made in my styles.css file have been wiped. Which leads me to believe I should not be amending the CSS directly, but using Custom CSS for everything. Is this correct? Or is it ok to be changing the styles.css file? Cheers Ben

Ben, You should be using the PlatformPro Base child theme if you want to make changes to the CSS. Download, install, activate and then edit the base.css file within the child theme.

Hi Gorman. Thanks for your reply. I have downloaded the Base theme. But I can't locate the file base.css. There is a styles.css file in the Base folder. Any ideas what I'm missing? Cheers Ben

I think base.css was used in an older version of Platform, which is what i'm still using. In the updated 1.4.1 it looks like there is no longer the base.css. Just use the style.css inside the platformbase directory. **Make sure that the child theme is your activated theme.

There is very little in the style.css file in the Base folder. Very strange! I'll have another look. Cheers Ben

Ben, Stylesheets from child themes import all the styles from the parent stylesheet. So even though there is little on the child, all the parent rules are being applied. What you put on the child stylesheet amends/overwrites what is on the parent. I dont know how clear that was. You can check the wordpress codex and it will explain child themes more in depth.
